Change in Election System

A change in how board members for the Oakley Union Elementary School District are elected is being considered. This change would affect the way residents of the district are represented on the school district's governing board for years to come. Under this new election system, the district would be divided into five geographic areas, and one board member living in each area would be elected by the voters who live in that area.

To learn more about these changes and to express your opinion you are invited to attend a public hearing May 15, 2019 at 6:00 pm at the O'Hara Park Middle School Library, 1100 O'Hara Avenue, Oakley CA 94561.

Community Forums

Members of the Oakley Union Elementary School District (OUESD) community are invited to attend two (2) Community Forums being hosted by OUESD to receive feedback on options for voting areas being established as OUESD transitions from a school board elected at-large to one elected by-area.

The Community Forums will be held on the evening of Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at O'Hara Park Middle School Library and Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Oakley Elementary School Library. Members of the community will have a chance to learn more about the process as well as review the three scenarios currently under consideration. The demographer who prepared the maps will be available to answer questions and take suggestions for potential revisions to the scenarios.

OUESD currently has an "at-large" election system where voters of the entire school district elect all members of the School Board. A "by-area" election system will carve OUESD's service area into "by-trustee areas." Voters in each "by-trustee area"will choose their School Board Representative, who must live in that voting area.
